Rising main milestone

Our team delivering the Taranaki St Rising Main alongside GHD and on behalf of Wellington Water and Wellington City Council have hit a major milestone with the completion of the first two drives using Guided Auger Bore technology.

Together the drives have allowed us to install around 150m of new 560OD PE100 rising main at over 3m deep. This includes a section of main under Vivian St (SH1) with no interruption to traffic.

Laser guidance and front steer technology mean that the installation is very accurate – arriving within 0.02% of planned grade. And the fully cased system means that no drilling fluid is required.

Trenchless technologies like this reduce the amount of contaminated waste taken to landfill, reduce the amount of reinstatement required and reduce disruption to traffic movements in the city.

We have another 4 drives planned on the project and we are excited to see what new opportunities we can find to add value with this technology.

We're blown away by the capabilities of this new technology, which can jack pipes or pull in welded PE strings up to 900OD. It is accurate to +/-20mm over around 80m.

Thanks to TRACTO Australia and Bohrtec GmbH for supplying the new plant and training our team on site.
