Work underway on the Featherston, Whitmore & Bowen Rising Main Upgrade

The sun shone as we broke ground on the Featherston, Whitmore & Bowen St Rising Main Upgrade yesterday. We have been working hard on this one since early 2019 and were really excited to see it start on site.

This project is one of Wellington Water's key projects in 2020/2021 and the gateway project for a programme of rising main resilience activities across Wellington's CBD. Over the next six months we are going to be installing a 450OD PE100 SDR17 rising main along Whitmore St & Bowen St from Featherston St to Ballantrae Place. This will include a new connection to the Main Sewer Interceptor, a trenchless crossing of Lambton Quay and a cut in to the existing rising main system at Pump Station 9.

Our first activity is a tricky crossing of the Terrace intersection where services are heavily congested and vehicle and pedestrian movements are going to present a challenge. Aaron and Mark and their teams attacked the work with the enthusiasm and professionalism resulting in a safe and well presented site.

We are working with Stantec on this one and are looking forward to developing a new relationship with James and Yassassvie (pictured here at the site induction) as the project progresses.
